Black unemployment in America is 6.1% of about 48 Million Black Americans (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
That’s roughly almost three million Black Americans unemployed. Purposeless, pride less, without dignity or hope. Now read Apple’s “Speaking Up On Racism.” Or check out that bad ass, stick it to the man “Sounds of Black Lives Matter” playlist!
It’s all platitudes. It all means nothing. Hey Apple why not put your money where your mouth is, and bring barely a quarter of those jobs back to America. Place the plants in predominantly struggling black communities, pay a real wage, with benefits. Give Black America pride, hope, and a future.
If Black Lives really matter to you, you would become an economic nationalistic company no matter how much your products may have to raise in price.
Jobs create hopefulness, keep families together. Jobs also keep people alive. Those drug overdoses would drop because drugs would be much less of a commodity, and much less of an industry in a town with modern manufacturing prowess, and success. Crime would be down. Black communities would hopefully start to mirror that of the safety, and prosperity of White America. Although there was Main St accepted segregation and racism back in the 60’s and 70’s we as a country saw a positive direction slowly gaining steam with manufacturing jobs booming in black areas in Indiana, Ohio, and all down the rust belt and Mississippi. (I highly recommend Chris Arnade’s book ‘Dignity’ for more on that very sad subject). And, yet the very modern global capitalist companies that my generation takes their protesting marching orders from such as Apple are the very institutions that don’t care at all about the lives of our poorer, and struggling communities. Not only do they not care, they offer no real answer or change. Here we are struggling as a nation during a pandemic, and arising racial, and class tensions on the daily and they are shamelessly offering us a corporatized socialist rebellion in the form of a fucking playlist, and empty words written on a web page.
The seeds of unchecked capitalism growing into an ugly, and unjust modern corporatism screwed Black Americans. The same way it has screwed blue collar White Americans. Both factions of our society are being sold a bill of goods with the idea that the remedy will be from a new Utopian philosophy Democratic-Socialism. An oxymoron to most political savvy linguists? Of course it is. But, what it truly means at its core is waving the white flag in the face of the American Dream. In some cases, not believing the American Dream ever even existed. Unless you’re old, evil, white, and rich, obviously. It’s saying to all you out there struggling, and desperately wishing for well paid blue collar jobs to come back to this country that we have no plan on bringing back jobs. Here’s Welfare. Here’s Universal Basic Income. Here’s Reparations. Essentially here’s money, now be quiet, and go away. Concepts like jobs, your purpose, and your pride are ignorant and archaic. Stop asking about them. The best part is you and your family for generations will be idly stuck as lower class. Upward mobility is dead, it’s a social construct designed by evil capitalist pigs. Take the check, stay fat, stay poor, and every so often when you’re upset about something, don’t worry we’ll make a cool playlist about it.
Democratic Moralism as a top priority in the private sector, and the idea of a strong and prideful middle and lower class is the only way to actually care about Black Lives, and dare I say “All Lives.” But we can’t have that can we? Because that affects the true bottom line. Protesting, looting, rioting, and socialism on the rise doesn’t. I mean, why would it? Apple and many such companies like it don’t do business here anyway. It’s all in China, with almost 5 million barely paid slaves hammering away, “hired” by Apple alone.
Tearing down statues of Lincoln, and Robert E. Lee? Destroying memorials of Frederick Douglass? #BLM, companies like Apple are willfully allowing you to hate the ghosts of Christmas Past, so you don’t start looking at the present. You want to tear something down? Storm the gates of Silicon Valley. Their playlists and love letters for equality are merely a “Nothing to see here,” redirection from the slavery, and racism they engage on a daily basis. Take unapologetic pride in America, demand jobs back here on our soil. Otherwise no matter how nice they are to your face, they will forever behind your backs tell you to eat cake.
