When the powerful decide to co-opt a specific section of the counter-culture, and deem it to be the only socially acceptable deviation from traditional culture; free expression begins to be just a useful tool for the people in charge. For it is far more effective to manipulate through culture than that of politics.
First goes the artists, for they are the easiest because they are ruled by empathy.
Then the professional class because they are ruled by greed.
Lastly the poor, manipulated by hope. True absolute free speech is all but lost in this country. I just never thought most of my peers would be so easily celebrating its death. The level of blissful ignorance towards widespread socially engineered censorship in both the industries of big tech, and journalism so you could all YAS QUEEN Kamala Harris or praise be King Biden is at historical levels of disturbing. The acceptance of censorship, even at the smallest degree imparted on the most benign of topics creates a world divided into two camps. Blind dogmatic followers of the “proper” information or free thinkers that become prisoners in their own minds for fear of societal persecution. It’s not what’s coming, it's what we have been steam rolling towards, and now with the silicon valley purge we have finally arrived. Censorship directly correlated to a desired political gain whether the pursuit is noble, and morally justified is of no matter, it is wrong, and the final death nail of a free society. Right now, literally as I type this an entire populace of voters, corporations, and politicians are not just allowing it to happen for a political victory, they are helping facilitate it, and actively celebrating it. And, for what? The welcoming, and the approval of an authoritarian victory in the name of a misguided perceived utopia? How shallow, and dangerous.
I am a free speech absolutist, and if the consequences of that are a president and policies that may or may not disgust me, I really don’t care. A free society must absolutely allow all dissent, and exploratory practices of journalism whether they are true or not. The only way to find out what is ethical and true is the allowance of all information. Information must be pitted up against misinformation to come to the much needed objective truth. Socially acceptable information only; while possible misinformation is actively being hidden—is not the celebration of truth, and justice. It is the first step towards never knowing the truth. A synthetic happiness is an authentic nightmare.
Covid, kids in cages, racism, white supremacy; all fear mongering. That is not to dispute the existence of injustices, but to acknowledge another level of inhumane practices—-which is that all these injustices were carefully focus grouped, then packaged, then exploited for your daily consumption. For every injustice in the world there is an equal, and perhaps at times even more powerful justice being carried out. Now imagine that was the message we all received, rather than that of fear and destruction. All the while we were stream lined this fear right into our phone-brains. Then on top of it all we’ve been told to stay home, and don’t go out. Don’t dare mingle with people who may think differently, live differently, and God forbid vote differently.
But, hey don’t worry weed is legal. Stay sedated, stay high, don’t think critically, and don’t ever question the stripping of your freedoms. Don’t look this way nothing to see here. Here’s a joint, processed food, and Netflix is still kicking! Stay sedated, stay fat, only consume your information, and facts through your TV and phone. Don’t dare go talking to real living and breathing humans. Dirty-Death, Covid, and Racism could all happen to you all at once, especially after 10 PM at a restaurant in New Jersey.
