In this brave new world we are all stuck in- the hard data very rarely correlates with responses like riots, or even general societal rage. Data continually contradicts most of it, if not all of it. So I ask in the supposed age of science and reason why do we consistently support the upheaval of our American institutions based on emotionally triggered responses via social media? How is that progress? Aren’t the very people behind all of these revolutions self proclaimed Progressives?
The most recent stain on humanity through this continual trend in our modern society is the anarchistic destruction all across our country based on the idea that the George Floyd killing is not an isolated incident. It is somehow more representative of how The American Police Force’s general behavior is conducted. More specifically, that cops are exclusively hunting black people at large numbers all across our land. But, as data often does, it swoops in and is the direct enemy to overly emotional hypotheses. Roland G. Fryer, Jr. a Harvard Professor, and a black man conducted a thorough study on this very notion just four years ago, and even to his surprise, found it to be false.
“The finding of no racial discrimination in police shootings was the most surprising result of my career.”
-Professor Fryer
Now, back to the misguided progressives behind our country’s current unrest. Where did this mindset, and political philosophy start? Teddy Roosevelt, was a self proclaimed “progressive,” that had certain ego driven flaws in his philosophy, but nonetheless was a real old school progressive. Establishing The Bull Moose Party, in attempts to politically sabotage his own former party; due to equal parts spite, and beliefs. A gutsy man that equally stood on bravado and principal. These new progressives can barely stand on their own two feet. TR isn’t just rolling over in his grave over these new disgustingly misguided “progressives'' he's rolling over in his grave, throwing up, choking on his own vomit, and dying multiples times over again; post-mortem.
Why bring up Teddy? The old time progressives, and Bull Moose? Because these cyclical cultural revolutions that have been arising all throughout my lifetime (I was born in 1985) seem to be always glaringly rooted in historical inaccuracies, and misguided uneducated empathy. Even the simple twist of history when you google the Bull Moose Party is enough for concern. It essentially gives you a spark notes blurb describing it as the Progressive Party. Purposely or incidentally does not matter. What does, is the suggestion that Teddy was the forefather for the wave of progressives we see today. AOC, Sanders, Stacey Abrams, etc. TR had his flaws with certain big government beliefs, but none of those aforementioned career losers could have shined his hunting boots.
Which brings us back to the data issue. Something as simple and subtly misleading as connecting Roosevelt’s legacy to the likes of new age Dem-Socialists is seemingly at first glance such a small cultural misfiring of information. But, within culture and society, it is always the small things that matter. Something that seems of non consequence is actually what always furthers the issue of the American psyche taking everything at face value.
Teddy was the father of The Progressives. That’s all we need to see! To every ANTIFA/Progressive Rioter’s delight:
“So badass, we are like the new Teddy Roosevelts!”
And, what’s most frustrating with that notion is that it doesn’t take much more than the reading of the first few chapters of any book written about him, to understand the stark contrasts between him, and pretty much any modern politician. Very few do though, and that’s the problem. So here we are.
We are currently in an age where simple college research paper skills are tossed aside for overloading on celebrities' #BLM Instagram posts or the powerful political propaganda of the “Now This,” clip. Which in turn is the basis for the data correlation issue. If this generation’s “freedom fighters” don’t have the ten minutes to double check something as simple as a historic president’s beliefs and track record; they’re never going to nose dive into an impartial Ivy League racial police brutality study. For if they did, their cos play revolution would feel very silly.
The data not being on the side of our country's rebellious youth maybe nothing new, although I would argue it has never been as bad as it is now. But, what is cause for the most concern I believe is that our young “revolutionary” minds of this country are quickly becoming the first "castle-stormers," that are simultaneously being applauded by the very people that have been running the castle for decades. Isn’t that enough for pause? For concern? One would think. But not when data or information is of no interest. Storm the castle anyway. Truth be damned. Now that’s a hell of scary battle cry for our future.
